So, I can't stop procrastinating studying for MCATS. It's actually fun really (studying), once I get going.. but I can't get myself to open up the book. What is it that keeps me from just sitting down and reading about something I enjoy reading? I mean, it's not fascinating stuff, but it's readable, and its nice to know that what you're reading is a beneficial type of knowledge. But then again, if I don't get into med school, or even choose any career in medicine in a couple of years, what constitutes the long-term aspects of this type of knowledge's "benificiality"?
I guess that's where my answer lies. I want to go to medical school, but I am scared I won't get in. DOUBT. I have doubt, and that let's me put off work, so I can answer my doubt in a negative way. I am basically not working so I KNOW that I won't be able to get into medical school for sure, I'm dissolving my doubt, my fear, and my worries.
YET THAT seems to be wrong. Why? Because the more I procrastinate, the more I worry about not getting in? It's confusingly ironic. I don't understand.
Anyway, I'm currently addicted to Dunkin Donuts coffee. Too bad they only sell the roasted beans and not the already grounded powdered coffee. Life sucks because it requires work sometimes. Doing work brings a type of satisfaction to worker however. Am I scared to be satisfied by putting possible hard work in studying for the mcats or placing the coffee beans into a coffee maker? Well, though satisfaction lies in completion of the work itself, it is different from the satisfaction also gained from other benefits recieved from doing the work -- like getting into medical school, or tasting great coffee. Other factors underlie whether or not I get into medical school - like my gpa, extra curriculars, interview, or even whether the coffee tastes good - what type of cream used, how much sugar was put in the coffee, how well the coffee was mixed. Satisfaction from completing the work I guess just doesn't seem to be as important to me as gaining the extra possible benefits from completing the work.
Greed.
My procrastination is running ahead to obtain satisfaction, while my hard work is chugging slowly and unpersistently along. Unfortunately, procrastination never wins the race, but destroys it.
